Bike Rider Hurt in Crash

KSAL Staff - October 23, 2014 11:28 am

A bicyclist is injured at a busy Salina intersection.

Police say 30-year-old Troy Helzer was transported to Salina Regional Health Center Wednesday evening at about 6:45pm after being struck by a car in the left hand turn lane of Crawford and 9th Street.

Witnesses told police that Helzer was riding between cars that were lined up at the light waiting to drive westbound on Crawford, when a vehicle driven by 67-year-old Betty Aden of Salina, struck his bike as he entered the left hand turn lane unseen.

Helzer then bounced into a 2005 Volvo that was lined up at the light.

He was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries.

Aden was not cited, and the accident remains under investigation.

He was not cited? Why should the person that hit him have to suffer when it was his fault. I am surprised not more of this does not happen with all the irresponsible bike riders out in Salina.
