Big Berlin Numbers

“It’s all the biggies – all the songs you know,” said Maestro Ken Hakoda with the Salina Symphony about this Sunday’s tribute to Irving Berlin.

Hakoda joined in on the KSAL Morning News Thursday with a look at Sunday’s concert, “Irving Berlin – From Rags To Ritzes.”

“His songs were big hits. It was easy to understand and his tunes were very catchy and that is something that appeals in any time period.”

Hakoda promises that songs like “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” “Blue Skies,” “God Bless America” and Puttin on the Ritz will keep the audience tapping their toe and singing along.

“You will be humming some of these tunes all the way home,” he said.

Sunday’s performance will include special vocal performances from the KWU Chorale and guest artists: Jill French, Corey Braxton, Bill Brown and Jenny Martinez.

The curtain opens at 4pm Sunday, November 8th at the Stiefel Theatre.
