Beyond John Brown Tonight

Salina was a small trading post during the U.S. Civil War. Tonight Salinan, Dr. Merle “Boo” Hodges will be trading stories about how the War Between the States impacted Kansas.

Civil War reenactor, researcher and speaker Dr. Hodges joined in on the KSAL Morning News Thursday with a look at his upcoming program at the Smoky Hill Museum on the Civil War in Kansas.

Hodges commented it was a time when neighbors were not always friendly, “You’ve got one community next to the other in Kansas and their absolutely 180-degrees opposite – and they’re violent,” he said.

“Everybody’s armed, everybody’s dangerous.”

Hodges added that you throw in some bad weather across the state and the stage was set for unrest and skirmishes.

“The Civil War in Kansas,” is a free presentation at Smoky Hill Museum tonight from 5:30-6:30pm.
