Autopsy Ordered in Man’s Death

The body of a deceased man found in downtown Salina Tuesday, has been taken to Kansas City for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Police Captain Mike Sweeney tells KSAL News that the owner of a property at 218 S. 4th Street discovered the body lying in a lean-to shed at about 2:55pm Tuesday afternoon.

“It is the body of a black male,” Captain Sweeney said.

“We’re not sure of the cause of death. We have an idea who it might be, and we are not releasing any other information until the results of the autopsy.”

Captain Sweeney says at this time the case is being treated as an unattended death.

Police are investigating after a body was found behind a vacant building in the Salina downtown area Tuesday afternoon.
Police and EMS were called to the 200 block of South 4th Street just after 3:00 in the afternoon to the report of a possible deceased person. First responders found a deceased, adult male in an outdoor area behind a vacant building.
Police told KSAL News at the scene that the case is being treated as an unattended death. An investigation is underway to determine how the man, who was not immediately identified, died.
An area west of South 4th Street, near the area of 4th and Walnut, was taped off as police worked the scene.
