An inmate found hanging in a Saline County Jail cell remains unconscious at the hospital.

According to Captain Roger Soldan with the Saline County Sheriff’s Office, an inmate alerted deputies after waking up to find 49-year-old John J. Tripp hanging from the top bunk in his cell.

Deputies performed CPR before Tripp was transported to Salina Regional Health Center early Sunday morning around 1:20am.

Captain Soldan tells KSAL News that Tripp had wrapped a pair of jail issued pants around his neck.

Tripp, who is from Keystone, Florida had been in the Saline County Jail since since October 31st on drug charges.
