Abilene Basketball Teams Roll in Opener

             The Abilene Cowgirl and Cowboy basketball teams continued their mastery of Smokey Valley Friday night in what was the season openers for both schools. The Cowgirls defeated the Lady Vikings 61-35.  It was the 11th straight win in the series for the Cowgirls.  The Cowboys won 47-35 over the Vikings for the 14th straight victory in the series.

             The girls game was never close Abilene led 22-2 after the first quarter, 33-10 at halftime, 52-20 at the end of the third which led to a running clock in the fourth.  Abilene had 11 different players score. The only player in double figures was Senior Jessica Hayes who poured in a season high 18 points.

             In the boys game the Cowboys led 10-4 after one, 20-14 at halftime, 37-26 after three enroute to the 47-36 win.  Abilene was led by Ryan Wilson who finished with a team high 15 points. 

            Abilene will host Rock Creek next Tuesday.  It will be the only home game of the month for Abilene.  The Cowgirls won at Rock Creek last year 43-17, while the Cowboys lost 62-51.
