The Kansas Highway Patrol says an 8-year-old girl died when an all-terrain vehicle she was riding on crashed in Republic County.

The patrol says Mary H. Horner, of Belleville, died Saturday night when the all-terrain vehicle crashed on a farm field access road a few miles northwest of Scandia.

The ATV was being driven by a 9-year-old Scandia girl, who was taken to a Belleville hospital. Her condition was not immediately available.

The patrol says the girls were riding the ATV when it rolled, ejecting both girls. Neither girl was wearing a helmet.

Why have the parents not been arrested for killing these two kids? Who in the hell would put to young kids on an ATV to begin with. Its time authorities start charging parents with the deads of their kids. Just like the idiot in Salina who was letting his kids shoot guns when they were to young an unsupervised and one got killed. Its time law enforcement enforced the laws.

You hit the nail squarely on the head. Seems to me lack of brains and supervision cause these deaths and the parents should be held responsible. Any parent that puts a kid younger than 16 (the legal age to drive) on an atv should serve prison time if they get injured or killed.
