A 19-year-old man has drowned at Tuttle Creek State Park in Manhattan.

The Riley County Police Department identified the victim as Michael Tolsdorf of Manhattan. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that he fell through the ice Friday in the River Pond area.

Bystanders collecting firewood in the area unsuccessfully attempted to rescue Tolsdorf before emergency rescue teams arrived around 5:20 p.m. Tolsdorf’s body was recovered two hours later.

Tuttle Creek’s river pond area is located below the dam.
